{"id":2598,"date":"2023-06-01T17:14:22","date_gmt":"2023-06-01T17:14:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.truthinlabeling.org\/blog\/?p=2598"},"modified":"2024-02-21T04:31:23","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T04:31:23","slug":"there-are-plants-and-then-theres-plant-based","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/truthinlabeling.org\/blog\/2023\/06\/01\/there-are-plants-and-then-theres-plant-based\/","title":{"rendered":"There are plants, and then there\u2019s \u2018plant based\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There are pros and cons to eating \u201cplant-based\u201d processed foods, but no hazard greater than the excitotoxic \u2013 brain damaging &#8212; manufactured free glutamate, present without exception in the flavor-enhancers you\u2019ll find in all of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The popular Dr. Michael Greger is a perfect example of the domination that the GLUTES have over both physicians and the media.&nbsp; Over the years, the Truth in Labeling Campaign has repeatedly provided Dr. Greger with DATA showing how ingredients like MSG (all made with excitotoxic, brain damaging, free glutamate) are harmful, but we\u2019ve been rebuffed every time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Theo Mourad, co-founder of Theo\u2019s Plant-Based out of Chicago, is a good example of someone trying to fool customers into believing that their products are all full of healthy ingredients and nothing more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how Theo\u2019s Plant-Based advertised in May of 2023:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-stripes\"><table><tbody><tr><td>USDA ORGANIC<\/td><td>VEGAN<\/td><td>PALEO<\/td><td>NON GMO<\/td><td>SOY FREE<\/td><td>GLUTEN FREE<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><figcaption>https:\/\/www.theosplantbased.com<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLET\u2019S EAT MORE VEGETGABLES\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018\u2018THEO\u2019s PLANT-BASED\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>REAL. UPCYCLED. UNPEALED. VEGETABLES. ORGANIC | Regenerative | Nutrient-Rich<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there are things that Theo isn\u2019t telling.\u00a0 One, for example, is that excitotoxins can be made out of produce that is organically grown.\u00a0 Excitotoxic amino acids are created when any protein<s> <\/s>from any source is broken into is constituent amino acids.\u00a0 \u201cOrganic\u201d does not mean that a product is free of free glutamate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Second, by FDA rules, every ingredient in a food product must be listed on its food label by its common or usual name. That, however, won\u2019t tell you if there is free glutamate in a product. (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.truthinlabeling.org\/names.html\" target=\"_blank\">Look here for the names of ingredients that contain free glutamate<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, here\u2019s a quick tip about something to watch out for.
